The idea for this project was born years ago, when I read the literature of communist imprisonment—more specifically, the volume Închisoarea noastră cea de toate zilele, Our Daily Prison by Ion Ioanid—in which the author recounts his escape from the Cavnic (România) mines in 1953 and his wandering through the forests of Maramureș and Bukovina as far as Iacobeni, where the village priest helped him reach Bucharest. I attempted to retrace the route of Ioanid’s escape; in Cavnic I found the ruins of the former mine administration buildings, the Reiner mine entrance, the road, and the church in Iacobeni. Part of the works were made there.
